On Her Head

Sophie's new thing is to put things on her head. This came in handy at church when she was entertained for quite some time with a shirt from her diaper bag. On her head, and off her head and then on again. She also thinks it is fun to crawl with stuff of her head too, despite running into the kitchen cabinets. Here is a little clip of her with a kitchen towel and a sock.

Only The Best For Our Baby

I don't get many shots of Mike and Sophie for the blog, so I felt the need to make a post about this. Here are some pictures of Mike and Sophie enjoying a mexican pizza from Taco Bell. We want to make sure that Sophie has a well balanced diet. The funny thing is that she only wanted Mike's food, even though I had the same thing. Sophie sure does love her daddy.

WE HAVE TAKE OFF!

Sophie has been taking a few steps here and there the last couple weeks, but now she is really going. Here is a video of some of her fancy foot work.

Sophie's Birthday Party

Care Bear Party!

These are the decorations that we had for Sophie's Party. Not that anyone would know this, but those letters are in "Care Bear" font. It turned out better then I expected.

Sophie eating her first whole cupcake. She was not so convinced about it at first, but once I gave her a taste of the frosting she started to be more interested. She is really funny about how she eat. She likes to pull little pieces off to eat. Even something like cheerios she will bite in half. Mike says that she gets that from me.
You may also note all the cake and frosting smashed into her hair on her left. We think Sophie is headed toward being a lefty like her mom, but she is still undecided.

Thanks to Aunt Angie Sophie is the excited owner of a Care Bear that is the same size as she is. Sophie loves it. She will crawl over and tackle/hug it whenever she can. As you can see from the first picture Sophie has lots of Care Bear, and I think all but two came from garage sales. I love garage sales.

OUR FAMILY PICTURE WITH THE CARE BEAR CAKE

This Cake was actually much easier then I thought it would be. I had a fun time decorating it. Also, it is nearly impossible to make black icing, so that is why the Care Bear has blue eyes like Sophie. Thanks to everyone that came up for the party and also to Grandma and Grandpa Olson, Uncle Erik and Great Grandma Bliss for joining in on the party via Skype.

A Year of Sophie

Happy Birthday Sophie! Wow, I know we talk all the time about how time flies by so quickly, but it really does. Sophie, one year ago today your daddy and I were hanging out in the St. Mark's Hospital with you just thinking about how tiny and sweet and wonderful you were. And lucky for you, we still think all of those things are true plus a whole lot more. You have been such a joy and blessing to us as parents and to all your other family. You have an easy going personality and love to explore all of the things in your world. We want you to know today and everyday how much we love you and that Heavenly Father knew that you were meant to be here in our family.

First Camping Trip of the Year

Camping is a funny thing. Here we spend our days earning money to have roof over our heads and then we decided that we want to spend more money to pack up food and gear and sleep out in the middle of the woods.
Well regardless of the irony, Mike and I both like camping. There is just something about seeing 100 times more stars then you can see from your house, the fresh mountain air, and sitting around a camp fire that makes all the preparation worth it.

We went camping with Mike’s brother Daniel and his son Benji, Mike’s brother Ryan and his wife Tara and two daughters Mia who is almost 3 and Tayen who is 8 months. We also had our friend Terrance from work and his Wife Holly and two sons.

We had a blast. We rode ATV, cooked awesome food and made smores and banana boats around the campfire. It was Sophie’s first camping trip and she did very well. Terrence and Holly camp a lot with their family so they were well prepared with a outdoor baby playpen with a piece of outdoor carpeting.

Let me tell you there are not many places to put your non-walker down while camping. My arms were grateful for the break and Sophie was grateful to get down.
While out on the ATV trails the first day Daniel got stuck in the mud and we had to use one of the other ATV’s to pull him out.

In the process, Mike’s only pair of pants got covered in mud from the knees down.

As you can see from the picture, it didn’t seem to bother him at all.
We went on a couple of nice rides while we were there for the weekend. We definitely want to go camping there again. On our rides we found even better camp site that we would go to next time.

I thought this was funny. Sophie was so over the hat.

Drinking from a Straw

http://www.ivanwlam.com/experiments/images/photo/general/090604-smoothie/090604-smoothie-straw.jpg
Today Sophie drank from a straw for the first time. We were at Costco and I had one of those berry smoothie things. I put my finger on the end of the straw and gave Sophie a taste as I have done many times before, but this time she started sucking on the straw. So I let her try to drink right from the straw in the cup and she did! Great job Sophie, except now you are going to want a drink every time mommy and daddy have one.
